DENTAL IMPLANTS

DENTAL IMPLANTS

When we experience tooth loss for any reason, this leads to many problems at the balance of the mouth

In the absence of a tooth, whichever side is toothless, the person starts to avoid chewing on that area. For example, if you have a tooth loss in the lower right jaw; since you can no longer chew effectively on the right side, you always start to chew on the left side.

Therefore, while the right area of the mouth is out of function, the left area starts to function more than normal. Problems develop due to dysfunction on the right side and right joint area, while those in the left side due to excessive function. Meanwhile, the teeth adjacent to the toothless region begin to move because they lose their contacts. Gaps between teeth, tilts and elongations can be observed. For these reasons, it is very important to treat toothless spaces without wasting time.

Implants mimicking the tooth root are made of titanium material that is compatible with the body.

Prostheses supported with implants can be prepared in cases of single tooth deficiencies, partial toothlessness (multiple tooth deficiencies) or complete toothlessness.

There are many criteria that extend or shorten the healing period of implant to establish a firm connection with the bone surface and to start preparing the superstructure.

During the operation, the healing time is determined by evaluating many points such as the quality of the bone and the localization of the implant. Prosthesis construction is started after waiting for the implant osseointegration for 4-6 months for the upper jaw and 3 months for the lower jaw.

Movement of removable prostheses creates problems especially in completely edentulous patients and reduces the quality of life of the patient. Patients can not eat or talk comfortably even with family members due to the prosthesis that their prosthesis is constantly moving, and the anxiety that will be thrown out of their mouth.

In such cases, it is possible to fix the removable dentures to the mouth by means of implants placed in the mouth.

The patient can put on and remove the prosthesis at any time, but it will not move after the prosthesis is placed in the mouth. This provides an advantage in terms of facilitating cleaning while providing comfort and effective function to the patient.

Why should implant treatment be preferred?

The only thing that applies to all of us is to keep our natural teeth in the mouth as long as possible.

But when we experience tooth loss for any reason, we face two options. Either the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth are cut and reduced and a bridge is made or implant treatment is planned.

In bridge treatment, in addition to one tooth loss, at least two natural teeth are cut and tissue loss occurs. As a result, “loss” is mentioned. However, implant treatment means "recovery" of the missing tooth root.

The advantages of implant treatment can be listed as follows:

· Protecting healthy teeth

· Prevention of bone loss in the toothless area

· Restoring functions such as speaking, eating

· Editing aesthetic appearance

What should be considered when choosing a dental implant?

There are many points that we pay attention in the selection of implants.

The most important one is the prosthetic plan. Because after the implants heal, prosthetics provide function, aesthetics and fonation. Gingival condition, bone density, diameter, height, adjacent anatomical structures are also evaluated.

What are the treatment steps in dental implants?

§ Treatment Plan

§ Implant placement, temporary prosthesis application

§ Osseointegration of the implants to the bone

§ Placement of healing caps

§ Impression

§ Placement of the final prosthesis

§ Routine Controls

Healthy and adequate bone tissue and regular, good oral hygiene are essential for implant treatment.

Does pain occur during or after implant treatment?

Since the implants are generally placed with local anesthesia, the patient does not feel pain during the procedure.

Generally, patients state that it is a more comfortable operation than tooth extraction. As with any surgical procedure after the operation, ice application is important. As numbness passes, there is a feeling of pressure in the jawbone. After the implants are placed, your doctor will plan the antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and pain medication treatment that she deems necessary

Stitches are removed after 1 week.
